Vivid purple hair falls across her face, fingers just visible as she holds it there - shy, hidden, guarded. And yet her eyes, wide and startlingly blue, meet yours directly, unflinching. It's a striking contradiction: the shyness of the gesture against the boldness of the stare, all set against a bright, saturated yellow background that refuses to let the piece fade into the background.
As with all of Fiona's work from this series, the figure is left unpainted, white paper doing the work, giving the portrait a sculptural, graphic quality against bold, confident colour. Strong outlines, striking palette, unmistakably her.
